Over many centuries, the Vietnamese have handmade Dó paper from dó tree bark. Once used for imperial edicts and important documents, Dó paper is cherished for its durability, lightness and natural beauty — and serves as the foundational material in Candora's creations.
How Dó Paper Is Made
From raw bark to a finished sheet.

Dó paper was used in Vietnam's imperial court for edicts, palace records and temple books. Its exceptional durability comes from a craft process preserved across generations: bark harvested by hand, soaked, boiled with ash, pounded, then pulled sheet by sheet on bamboo screens.
Dó paper is thin and luminous like silk, yet strong enough to resist tearing and the wear of time. Many documents made from Dó centuries ago remain perfectly preserved in museums today.
Candora selects Dó paper from traditional villages in northern Vietnam, then develops and refines each design in our Da Nang studio — bringing a heritage material into contemporary hotel spaces.
Dó paper does not fade with time. It holds the depth of time. When you take it home, it carries a piece of Vietnamese memory.
The Process
From bark to sheet, formed entirely by hand.

01 · Harvest
Dó tree bark is harvested, steamed, and stripped completely by hand.

02 · Boil and pound
The bark is boiled with wood ash, then pounded for many hours into a soft, even fibre.

03 · Pull the sheet
The pulp is mixed in water with mò resin, then pulled on a bamboo screen to form each sheet.

04 · Dry and finish
Each sheet is pressed and dried on a wall in the sun, then selected and finished in the studio.
