Two coastal cities, two craft legacies — Da Nang and Genoa meet to build a bridge between Italy and Central Vietnam.
On the afternoon of 16 June 2026 (local time), Da Nang city, in coordination with the city government of Genoa (Italy), the Vietnamese Embassy in Italy, and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, successfully organised the Genoa–Da Nang Conference under the theme "Journey from Italy to Central Vietnam." The event aimed to promote investment and tourism cooperation and to ignite cultural creativity between the two sides.
The conference marked an important step in the partnership between Da Nang and Genoa — two cities with complementary potential. Genoa is renowned as a major seaport and tourism hub of Italy, while Da Nang is an attractive destination with long coastlines, modern infrastructure, and an open investment environment. Through the conference, Italian businesses and investors had the opportunity to learn more about Da Nang's priority sectors such as high technology, logistics, resort tourism, and the green economy.
A gift that travels well
For such an occasion, the gift matters — it carries the city's hand to a partner an ocean away. The Da Nang Tourism Board chose Dó paper products by Candora as the official international gifts presented to Italian partners at the conference. Handmade in Da Nang from the bark of the Dó tree — the paper once used by Vietnam's royal courts — each piece carried a quiet, tactile sense of the place it came from.
For us, that is exactly what a gift between cities should do: speak softly, in material and craft, of where it was made. To see Dó paper travel from a Da Nang workshop to a hall in Genoa is a small, proud moment for our studio.
Heritage is the most generous ambassador a city can send abroad.
What it means for travellers
For Vietnamese and international travellers, this event promises many new tourism and cultural products connecting Italy and Central Vietnam. In the coming time, locals and visitors can look forward to cultural exchange programmes, art exhibitions, and linked tour packages between the two cities — a positive signal for Da Nang's tourism industry as it expands into the European market.
When craft and culture move between cities, the doors open a little wider for everyone who makes, hosts, and travels. We're glad our Dó paper was part of the first handshake.
